Researching on the Internet

While the library databases are probably your best source for free, full-text, reliable information from magazines, newspapers, and databases, you may find yourself needing to research online, too.

The Internet is great, but there's a lot out there that may be unreliable, inaccurate, biased, or misleading. You need to search the Internet carefully and evaluate anything you find carefully.

Underneath the Web Research tab, you'll find a few things:

  • Advanced Google Searching - tips and tricks to make the most out of your Google search. You'll find directions here on limiting your search results to a specific website or domain, searching for phrases, and more.

  • Evaluating Websites - wondering if a site you found is appropriate for your research or not? The short video tutorial on this page will show you how to effectively evaluate the credibility of websites.

Remember, if you ever wonder if a website is OK to use for your research or not, contact a librarian.
