The information linked below comes from the Lexicomp database which is a subscription database whose access is provided to you by San Jacinto College. This database provides basic, medical information in easy to understand language. Search the database directly by clicking the link above.

Follow this pattern when citing Lexicomp information on your Works Cited List:

"Name of Article." Lexicomp, url without http://

Citing NIMH Information and Publications

Here are some important considerations when citing NIMH information or publications to ensure that someone else can locate the material:

  • The “author” of any NIMH material is almost always “The National Institute of Mental Health,” rather than an individual person, unless specified otherwise.
  • Include a complete title whenever possible, even though the title may be long, in order to differentiate between that item and others with similar titles.
  • For publications, it is always desirable to identify the publication number (located on the back cover and/or last page of every publication).
  • If you are citing a Web page or other electronic content, it can be helpful to include the page title, full URL, and the date you retrieved the information.

There are many different citation styles from which to choose; use the citation style that is required or best fits your needs. If you have questions about citing or using NIMH publications, please contact the NIMH Information Center at 1-866-615-6464 or at nimhinfo@nih.gov.
